Industrial Door Engineering - Completes Fire Station Upgrades

Industrial Door Engineering has completed the upgrade of the Appliance Bay automatic
doors for the Cheshire Fire Service in the UK.

The £150,000 Contract involved either the complete renewal of the Appliance Bay Doors
or alternatively, the upgrade of the automatic control systems. The programme of works
commenced in Summer 2009 and was completed in February of 2010.

In total, 24 different fire stations throughout Cheshire County were worked upon. Some
like the headquarters in Chester as shown in the attached photograph, were subject to a
complete renewal program of doors complete with high speed motor units, LED traffic
lights, photocell safety beams and auto-close photo-cells that instruct the doors to close
immediately after the fire engine has left the building.

A range of different doors were supplied depending upon the style of buildings and their
surroundings. Fully glazed sectionals, as at Chester, were installed at some sites.
Standard sectionals or insulated roller shutters were installed at a number of other sites.

Ray Bassett of I.D.E. who co-ordinated the contract said ‘The Cheshire Fire Service are
delighted with the upgrade that was carried out on schedule. The control equipment with
the high speed motors and the sophisticated safety features is a vast improvement on
what was originally fitted on the fire stations, and has helped significantly in the efficiency
of the sites, particularly in emergency situations where the response time of the fire
engines is critical.’
